HISTORY
Ringgold County was established in 1847 with Mount Ayr was selected as the county seat in 1855. Mount Ayr was founded in 1875 and named for the birthplace (Ayr, Scotland) of poet Robert Burns. The “Mount” was derived from the town’s location as the highest point of land in the area.
